Apply to join a CPSA committee

CPSA is guided by several committees made up of regulated members, Albertans and other healthcare partners who share a passion for patient safety and high-quality health care.

Since we regulate the practice of medicine in Alberta, the purposes of our committees are wide-ranging. Committees provide guidance and expertise on topics including governance, physician competence, anti-racism and anti-discrimination, and medical facility accreditation. Each committee benefits from the knowledge of its committee members, who may be medical professionals, field experts or patients.

If you’ve been looking for an opportunity to lend your expertise and make a difference in the medical profession, consider serving on a CPSA committee. Participating in CPSA committees is a great way to have a positive impact on health care in Alberta while gaining and strengthening leadership and governance skills.

“Some of our most important policy work is done on CPSA’s committees,” shares Laurie Steinbach, a public member of CPSA Council who also chairs CPSA’s Governance Committee and sits on the Anti-Racism Anti-Discrimination Action Advisory Committee. “By participating in our committee work, physicians and members of the public can gain a better understanding of the inner workings of CPSA and medical regulation, and have a real impact on policy and regulatory development. In my experience, the discussions we have around the committee tables are rich and collaborative think tanks, and the perspectives of participants reflect a wide range of backgrounds, knowledge and experiences. We all learn from each other and work together in support of CPSA’s mandate to protect the public. I have loved the committee work I have done, I feel it is one small act of service I can do on behalf of Albertans.”

To show our appreciation of committee members’ time and expertise, we provide an honorarium. See CPSA’s honoraria and expense policy and our committees webpage to learn more.
