Registration fees

Practice Permit annual renewal

Physician annual fees are CPSA’s primary revenue source.

2021 2022
Practice Permit annual renewal fee $2,150* $1792*
Practice Permit late renewal penalty $500 $500
  • There are no renewal fees for medical students or postgraduate trainees (unless practising as a physician extender)
  • A  registration administration fee of $800 will be applied for all physicians registering with CPSA for the first time
  • If you are registering with CPSA for the first time between October and December pro-rated rates may apply
  • A permit fee of $100 will be applied for all physicians starting a PRA

*CPSA Council approved allocating $4.2 million from CPSA’s Building Fund Reserve towards CPSA operations, thereby creating a one-time annual fee reduction for all practising Alberta physicians in independent practice in 2022, who normally pay the full annual fee. Instead of the planned $2,150 fee for 2022, these physicians will pay $1,792.
