Registration fees

Practice Permit annual renewal

Physician annual fees are CPSA’s primary revenue source.

  • There are no renewal fees for medical students or postgraduate trainees (unless practising as a physician extender)
  • A  registration administration fee of $800 will be applied for all physicians registering with CPSA for the first time
  • If you are registering with CPSA for the first time between October and December pro-rated rates may apply
  • A permit fee of $100 will be applied for all physicians starting a PRA

Review of Qualifications fee

Applies to Step 3 (Submit a review of qualifications) of the Apply for Independent Practice registration process.

Certificate of Professional Conduct fees

  • CPCs are free for Alberta medical students and residents, and for physicians within two months of finishing their postgraduate training.

Professional Corporation fees

Physician Extender fees

Unlike their resident peers, physician extenders have to pay an initial registration fee and an annual renewal fee. These fees are not refundable.

PRA-AB fees

Fees (taxes are included) for a PRA-AB Assessment are paid by the sponsor and cover the cost of the assessors’ time and any expenses they incur related to the assessment. They also include any fees we pay to the Medical Council of Canada (MCC) to be a part of the pan-Canadian PRA program (NAC-PRA). Applicants may be responsible for their own assessment fees—please review your employment and sponsorship contracts for details.
