Coercing our medical professionals to violate their consciences as they seek the betterment of their patients is a dangerous precedent. First of all, the conscience plays an important role in preserving a society’s morality. Once ignored, there is a real danger that the moral fabric in that society will begin to unravel. Secondly, we are all subject to universal moral laws. A rightly ordered conscience will continually seek to adhere to these objective guiding principles. This should not be subject to fickle and emotional whims of someone else’s desires. Lastly, our Creator has placed within each of us this conscience in order to push us towards righteousness and truth. We violate it at our peril. We will certainly be held to account for our actions and choices by the One Who’s laws we spurn.
