Expert Peer Review

Are you a physician with an interest in peer review, complaint resolution and profession-led regulation? If so, consider working with our team as an Expert Reviewer!

What is Expert Peer Review?

When a complaint about a regulated member is submitted to CPSA, our Complaints Director may refer the file to a physician in our Expert Peer Review program.

Physicians with expertise in the same specialty as the subject of the complaint will review evidence and medical documentation to determine whether the care provided aligns with our standards of practice and the expected standard of care. They will then prepare a report with their findings for CPSA’s Professional Conduct team (we will provide specific questions and guidelines to follow).

The identity of the expert is anonymous to all parties involved in the complaint, unless the complaint proceeds to a hearing where disclosure of information is required. Although rare, an expert may be required to testify at hearing. In those circumstances, experts are provided support from CPSA (including legal counsel) throughout the process.
