About the standard
As of November 2022, the Medical Facility Accreditation Committee (MFAC) is no longer offering modality approvals or individual privileging of physicians in non-hospital surgical facilities. Medical Directors of accredited facilities are now responsible for ensuring all CPSA regulated members have the necessary qualifications to provide care in their facilities. Amendments to the Responsibility for a Medical Practice standard are needed to incorporate this responsibility.
What’s changed?
- Added a preamble to address the term “Medical Director” as it relates to legislation and accredited medical facilities;
- Addressed reasonable care in ensuring claims for payment for professional services are appropriate and consistent;
- Added the responsibility of ending a physician-patient relationship in accordance with the updated Ending the Physician-Patient Relationship standard;
- Updated the notification period to align with the Relocating a Medical Practice standard; and
- Added the role of a designated representative for clarity.
