CPSA administers Alberta’s Tracked Prescription Program (TPP Alberta), led by a Steering Committee of Alberta healthcare organizations.

To prescribe medications on the TPP-monitored Type 1 list, prescribers must be registered with TPP Alberta and use a physical TPP Alberta secure prescription pad. Under certain circumstances, TPP Alberta will provide facilities, clinics or e-technologies with exemptions from using physical TPP pads to prescribe TPP-monitored Type 1 medications.

At the April 2026 TPP Alberta Steering Committee meeting, the Committee agreed to provide TPP pad exemptions to certain facility and clinic types across the province, effective Sept. 2, 2026.

You can find the new TPP pad exemptions here.

Please review the new exemption details carefully, as they apply only to specific prescription types and scenarios.

Note: If you work at a facility with an exemption, you are still required to be registered with TPP Alberta. The pad exemptions only apply while working at the facility with the exemption.
