About our standards
In order to make sure facilities are safe and provide the highest quality care to Albertans, CPSA develops set standards for each facility type to follow. CPSA accreditation standards are based on input from field experts, best practices and research by other regulators, standard-setting bodies and industry associations. Standards are shared with medical directors of accredited facilities, provided once they apply for accreditation.
While accreditation decisions are made by the CPSA Medical Facility Accreditation Committee, CPSA Council approves all of our accreditation standards.
If you are the medical director of an accredited facility, or if your facility is undergoing accreditation, you may access our standards through the secure SharePoint site provided to you during the accreditation process.
Request a standard revision or provide feedback on the prescribed health services list
Do you have a suggestion to improve the accreditation standards for your facility type? Would you like to provide feedback on CPSA’s prescribed health services list? Complete and submit the facilities standard revision request and prescribed health services feedback form.
We review our standards every year to ensure they meet current best practice. The prescribed health services list in CPSA’s Bylaws identifies all procedures that can only be provided to the public within a facility accredited by CPSA or in a hospital-based setting. These procedures may not be provided in an unaccredited office-based setting.
Your request and/or feedback will be reviewed and a CPSA representative will follow up with you.
Request a standard exemption
Currently accredited OR new facilities in the application phase can submit a standard exemption request to CPSA for consideration. If eligible, complete and submit the Accreditation Standard Exemption Request Form for review by CPSA’s accreditation department and committee at their next regularly scheduled meeting date.
