If so, consider an active role in profession-led governance by joining CPSA’s Continuing Competence Committee! We are currently seeking one new member for a three-year term beginning in January 2027.

Under the Health Professions Act (HPA), the Competence Committee makes recommendations to CPSA Council (or their delegate) about our quality improvement and assurance programs. As a committee member, you will collaborate with other physician leaders and members of CPSA’s team to provide direction and guidance on the development, implementation and evaluation of these programs.

What are the qualifications to join the committee?

• You must be in good standing with CPSA, with a valid, active permit to practise medicine in Alberta.
• A minimum of five years experience in medical practice is required.
• Involvement in teaching, education, remediation and continuous quality improvement are considered assets.

What is the expected time commitment?

• The Competence Committee meets three times per year, twice virtually and once in person (alternating between Edmonton and Calgary), in March, June and October.
• All committee members are required to review and be familiar with applicable materials prior to meetings.
• Meeting and preparation time is approximately 30 hours annually.

Is this a paid position?

• CPSA pays committee members an honorarium and reimburses relevant expenses, based on CPSA rates.
