Through the Alberta Netcare eReferral eConsult service, healthcare providers can send non-urgent questions to 27 different specialties across Alberta and receive answers from a specialist within five calendar days.

Healthcare providers can ask all types of non-urgent questions for their patients such as:

  • What are the consequences of putting a patient on a new prescription?
  • Is a referral to see a specialist the right approach?
  • What support (e.g., physiotherapy, massage) could be recommended to patients while they wait for their specialist appointment?

In some cases, asking questions through eConsult can prevent a referral from entering the already busy healthcare system, or help the patient prepare for their appointment if they need to see a specialist.

More eConsult specialties are continually being added, including the provincial Sleep Medicine and Adult Psychiatry teams, as well as the Calgary area Geriatric Medicine team.
