Medical Device Reprocessing requirements for ophthalmology medical clinics
Back to MessengerRead time: 1 minute
Do you operate an ophthalmology medical clinic? Do you use reusable medical devices that come into contact with the conjunctiva mucosa?
If so, it’s important to know that CPSA has specific requirements for the use of these devices. Reusable medical devices that touch the eye’s surface must undergo high-level disinfection at a minimum. Additionally, you are required to notify CPSA’s Infection Prevention & Control (IPAC) program if you’re performing these activities so we can support you in maintaining compliance. To help ensure your practice is compliant, please review the following resources:
- Reusable & Single-Use Medical Device Requirements for Medical Clinics
- Point-of-Care High-level Disinfectant for Reusable Ocular Devices that Contact the Surface of the Eye
Staying informed and aligned with these requirements supports both patient safety and professional accountability.
For assistance or more information, please contact CPSA’s IPAC program at ipac@cpsa.ab.ca or 780-969-5004.
