Coming January 2025: Specialty Access Webinars for Primary Care Providers and Staff
Improving the surgical journey involves building new processes to support how patients, primary care providers and surgeons navigate through the surgical system. The Specialty Access Webinar Series, accredited by the Alberta College of Family Physicians, aims to assist primary care providers (and clinic staff) to understand and effectively utilize Specialty Access resources within their practices.
- Specialty Access Webinars will be hosted per Zone for primary care providers (and staff) in January 2025.

Specialty Access collaborates with primary care, specialty care and patient and family advisors to provide support for all points of a patient’s specialty care journey. The goal of Specialty Access is to continuously improve processes and services for primary care to access specialty care, including:
- Provincially, co-designed clinical, patient and referral pathways that provide clear direction for care.
- Improved specialty advice services for primary care.
- Improved processes for referrals to specialty care through Facilitated Access to Specialized Treatment (FAST).
- Distributed referrals to the most appropriate surgeon or surgical team with the shortest wait time.
