Payment
When will Pre-Authorized Payment (PAP) be withdrawn?
PAP will be withdrawn on Monday, Dec. 1, 2025.
When is the cutoff for PAP enrollment?
The cutoff date for PAP enrollment is Nov. 20, 2025. Anyone who enrolls after this date will not have their annual renewal fees withdrawn through PAP for their 2026 renewal.
How do I sign up for PAP?
You can sign up for PAP by visiting our website.
Does CPSA accept Visa Debit or e-transfer?
No.
Can I opt in for a monthly payment option for renewal fees?
No.
How do I know if my payment details for PAP are up to date?
Regulated members who have signed up for CPSA’s PAP Plan for their member and/or professional corporation annual renewal will now be able to see their PAP information on CPSA Portal to see if anything needs to be updated and to confirm whether they are signed up or not.
Learn more about how to access this and what it will look like with our PAP Portal Guide.
How do I know if CPSA received my cheque?
If you have received your practice permit after completing your form and submitting a cheque, that means your cheque was received by CPSA as a permit will not be issued until payment is received.
If you do not have your permit yet and are concerned that your cheque was not received, please email support@cpsa.ca or call 1-800-561-3899 and a member of our team will look into this for you. Please ensure that cheques are post-dated Dec. 31, 2025.
Address
It says something is missing from the address, but I can’t see what it is.
It’s likely one of the questions under “Address details” that describes your practice location. The address with missing information is indicated with a red bubble next to the address.
To resolve this, click “Manage” for the address with the red bubble, then click “Update address” to change the address, then click “Next” to be taken to the “Address details” section so you can fill out the missing information.
How do I enter an international address as my primary address?
This can be done in two ways:
- Start typing your address in the “Search for an address” field. When you start typing, at the bottom of the dropdown list, you will see “Canada” listed as the country, but if you click the dropdown, you can select any country of your choice.
- You can also use the “Address Override” toggle to make the greyed-out address fields editable and manually enter your international address.
What if only the first three characters of the postal code pop up?
If your postal code populates with the first three characters only, there is no need to enter the last three digits. This is sufficient for CPSA purposes.

* An Attraction & Retention Annual Fee Discount is applied to physician and physician assistant annual fees for 2026, equal to $200 for physician general register or the prorated equivalent for smaller fee amounts for different Registers. In 2026, CPSA is subsidizing annual fees by drawing down on surplus funds and operating at a deficit for the year. Surplus funds accumulated as a result of higher than forecasted membership numbers and lower than budgeted operating costs in prior years.
Annual renewal fees can be further detailed here: Physician Fees – College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta | CPSA

- Physician Practice Permit (clinical ONLY): $500

Technical
I’ve been locked out of my account. What do I do?
A password lockout is only valid for 2 hours—please try again after 2 hours. If you continue to have issues, we suggest resetting your password using the link on the Portal login page and trying again. See the FAQ below for information on how to reset your password.
I’ve tried to reset my password but the email isn’t coming through.
Emails can take up to 15 minutes to land in your inbox. We also recommend checking your spam/junk folder. If there is nothing there, it could be because you are trying to trigger the password reset using a different email than the email we have on file.
If you are using an Alberta Health Services email address and are not receiving the password reset, please try resetting your password with firstname.lastname@ahs.ca and firstname.lastname@albertahealthservices.ca. The second part of the email address needs to be exact for our system to recognize it.
If you continue to have issues, please email support@cpsa.ca.
The site is not loading for me!
Chrome is the best browser for completing your annual renewal. If you are using Firefox, Edge or Safari, these browsers will work to load the annual renewal forms, but you may need to clear your cache, close the browser and try again. Completing your annual renewal on a mobile phone is not recommended.
If you are still having trouble accessing your annual renewal through your main Portal, try visiting rif.cpsa.ca to access your forms.
As a note, if you are completing your annual renewal while outside of Canada, you may require a VPN to access your CPSA Portal.

Other
I am looking to retire this year. How does this impact my annual renewal?
You still need to complete your annual renewal form to let us know that you are retiring. We suggest visiting the retirement webpage on our website to see what else you need to do before retirement.
Regulated members who are retiring or withdrawing from practice on or before Dec. 31, 2025, will not be issued a practice permit and cannot bill for any medical services after Dec 31.
If you are only retiring from clinical work but still want to maintain an active practice permit, we recommend moving to the non-clinical register. If you’d like to discuss which option is best for you, please contact support@cpsa.ca or call 1-800-561-3899 to discuss with a member of our team.
I am planning to take a clinical leave of more than 6 months. What option should I select for the Practice Status question?
Selecting the “Non-clinical practice OR planned clinical leave (≥ 6 months)” option will move you to the non-clinical register. This means that you will not be able to bill for health services in 2026 or perform any clinical activities.
If your planned clinical leave begins after Jan. 1, 2026, please select a different option that best reflects your practice and contact registration@cpsa.ab.ca 45 days before the start of your planned clinical leave to begin the process of switching registers.
