About the standard
The Patient Record Retention standard was last updated in 2016; however, an updated draft was shared for feedback during Consultation 32 (Jan. 6-Feb. 6, 2026).
This draft incorporates proposed amendments to align record retention and management requirements with new legislative expectations for records relating to non-Plan services and electronic health information with the draft version shared during the previous consultation.
What’s changed?
- Proposes name change to Patient Record Management in acknowledgement of the breadth of this standard.
- Updates to retention requirements to align with new legislative obligations.
- Strengthens language around requirements for electronic record keeping.
- Provides further clarification regarding expectations for records relating to non-Plan services.
