MD Snapshot-Prescribing is produced quarterly by CPSA to help physicians improve patient care. It is not intended to be punitive or a judgment on clinical practice but is designed as a tool to support informed prescribing practices. Accessible online in the Analytics section of your secure CPSA Portal, MD Snapshot-Prescribing offers trend and comparison data on antibiotic, benzodiazepine and z-drug, opioid and new opioid prescribing.
Working with our analytics team, CPSA has developed a model using machine learning methods to predict individual-level patient risk of hospitalization, emergency department visits and mortality within 30 days of an opioid prescription. The results were encouraging, and a study was published in 2022.
Based on this work, we are exploring adding an opioid risk model score to MD Snapshot-Prescribing and would appreciate feedback on whether this information would be helpful and useful to your prescribing practice. Participants who complete a short survey can enter a draw to win an Apple Watch. Responses will be summarized anonymously and will help us improve MD Snapshot-Prescribing.
