Dr. Anike Atigari guilty of unprofessional conduct

Dr. Anike Atigari, a psychiatrist from Calgary, was found guilty of unprofessional conduct by a CPSA Hearing Tribunal.

After hearing testimony and considering all the evidence, the Tribunal found that four of the charges against Dr. Atigari were proven. These included:

• Diagnosing a patient without adequately considering relevant information, and dismissing an established diagnosis without an adequate reason.
• Failing to prepare an adequate record of the patient’s assessment or a consultation report for the patient’s referring family physician.
• Failing to undertake adequate assessments of two other patients given the reasons for their referrals, presenting histories and complaints.
• Preparing an inadequate consultation report for a patient’s family physician, which failed to accurately report the history provided by the patient.

Three additional allegations of unprofessional conduct were withdrawn and Dr. Atigari was found not guilty of the remaining allegations. Review the Hearing Tribunal’s decision in full on CPSA’s website.

The Hearing Tribunal will reconvene at a later date to consider recommendations from both parties on sanction.
