Prescribed Health Services additions

The prescribed health services list in CPSA’s Bylaws identifies all procedures that can only be provided to the public within a facility accredited by CPSA or in a hospital-based setting. These procedures may not be provided in an unaccredited office-based setting.

As of January 2026, CPSA Council has approved additions to the prescribed health services list following recommendations from the Medical Facility Accreditation Committee (MFAC).

The approved additions include the following:

Orthopedic Procedures:

  1. Excision Trapezium
  2. Suspensionplasty

Gynecology Procedures:

  1. Hysteroscopy – diagnostic
  2. Hysteroscopic minor adhesiolysis
  3. Hysteroscopic removal of polyps and FIGO 0–1 fibroids¹
  4. Labial cysts / hypertrophic labia / labial or vulvar lesions (under anesthesia)
  5. Vulvar procedures – biopsy and/or limited large excision (under anesthesia)
  6. Cervix colposcopy (under anesthesia)
  7. Cervix cone biopsy
  8. Endometrial ablation surgery/procedure²
  9. Endometrial evaluation – diagnostic or therapeutic hysteroscopy
  10. Examination under anesthetic
  11. Laser for cervix/vagina/vulva
  12. Uterus/cervix IUCD insertion/removal (under anesthesia)
  13. Vaginal foreign body removal (under anesthesia)

¹ Ultrasound within the last year; lesion ≤ 6 cm
² Includes global and resection ablation with appropriate fluid management system

3 Under anesthesia refers to anesthesia as per Prescribed Health Services Schedule 1 h. the use of drugs which are intended or which may induce general anesthesia or sedation requiring the monitoring of vital signs, including all uses of intravenously administered sedatives or narcotics, except in emergency circumstances

General Surgery Procedures:

  1. Reconstruction, breast, with breast implant insertion
  2. Reconstruction, breast, with breast implant insertion, bilateral
  3. Reconstruction, breast, with tissue expander
  4. Reconstruction, breast, with tissue expander insertion, bilateral
  5. Revision, reconstruction, breast
  6. Fistulectomy, anal, with seton stitch placement
  7. Fistulotomy, anal
  8. Fistulectomy, anal
  9. Ligation, fistula tract, intersphincteric
  10. Fistulectomy, anus or rectum, with closure using rectal advancement flap
  11. Fistulotomy, anal, with seton stitch placement

Retinal Procedures³:

  1. Epiretinal Membrane Peel (ERM)
  2. Pneumatic Retinopexy (PR)

³ Retinal laser photocoagulation (RLP) and retinal cryotherapy (RC) may be appropriate for office-based settings.
