Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH), Dr. Deena Hinshaw, hosted an informative webinar for physicians and pharmacists on July 28 to share the evidence-based rationale for the province’s recent COVID-19 announcement. The video is an excellent resource for physicians and Albertans who are seeking more information on the policy changes. If Albertans have any questions on the recent direction, they’re encouraged to reach out to the CMOH’s office or their MLA to gather more information.

Dr. Hinshaw will host an additional virtual session for health practitioners, to answer questions on the recent shifts in public health guidelines. Please note this session was moved from August 12 to August 18 as the Government of Alberta will be providing a full information package, including the data that informed their planning, in advance of the meeting.

We are living in unprecedented times and our knowledge and experience with COVID-19 is changing on a daily basis. We rely on public health specialists to help guide us, just as we trust other specialists to guide us in other areas of medicine. Therefore, it’s important not to pass judgment on public health decisions until you’re as well informed as the CMOH; public health is a specialty that takes years of training.
