A practice readiness assessment (PRA) is the last step for individuals to become an independently practising physician in Alberta who do not meet general registration requirements.
CPSA supports two PRA routes:
- The traditional PRA route has two parts: a 3-month Preliminary Clinical Assessment (the physician works while being supervised by a CPSA-approved assessor) and a 3-month Supervised Practice Assessment (SPA) (the physician works independently in the community they choose with another physician supervising them).
- The accelerated route lets physicians that meet the criteria go right into the 3-month SPA to get them helping Albertans as soon as possible.
