What approvals are required for a 16- or 17-year-old to start hormone therapy for gender-affirming care?

All of the following are required:

  • consent from a parent/legal guardian
  • approval from a physician licensed to practise in Alberta
  • approval from a psychologist licensed to practise in Alberta

If any of these approvals are missing, hormone therapy cannot be started.
