Do new medical clinics require an infection prevention and control (IPAC) or medical device reprocessing assessment before opening?

Posted June 12, 2026

No. Clinics do not require an IPAC assessment before opening; however, they are expected to comply with CPSA’s IPAC requirements from the start of operations.

All clinics must ensure their location is registered with CPSA’s Medical Clinic Registry. To register your medical clinic with CPSA’s Medical Clinic Registry, visit CPSA’s Medical Clinic Registry page.

Clinics that reprocess reusable medical devices on-site will participate in a medical device reprocessing assessment once equipment has been installed and policies and procedures are in place.
