International medical graduates (IMGs) from outside CPSA’s list of approved jurisdictions, and Canadian graduates who fail their certification exam, must pass the PRA before joining CPSA’s Provisional Register.
In Alberta, physicians do not apply for a PRA. CPSA reviews each physician’s qualifications on a case-by-case basis and confirms if they are eligible to join the Provisional Register. The PRA is the required final step to independent practice on the Provisional Register.
