These cycles have aligned—find out how this will impact you

One of the top questions we get from physicians about the Physician Practice Improvement Program (PPIP) is “When does my PPIP cycle end?”.

When PPIP first launched in 2021, the intention was for all physicians registered at the time to complete their first five-year cycle of three PPIP activities by the end of 2025. To ease the reporting burden, your PPIP cycle now aligns with your continuing professional development (CPD) cycle through your national college (the College of Family Physicians of Canada or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada). When your CPD cycle restarts, so will your PPIP cycle.

If your current CPD cycle does not end in 2025, the end of your first PPIP cycle will be modified accordingly. If you are not sure when your current CPD cycle ends, please contact your respective national college CPD program (Mainpro+ or MOC).

Reporting and keeping track of PPIP activities

More than 70% of physicians have self-reported completion of all three activities in their first PPIP cycle.

Every year, physicians are asked to report their PPIP progress on their renewal information form (RIF). Using this information, CPSA’s Continuing Competence team has developed an individualized PPIP Report for physicians, capturing how many PPIP activities you have completed so far.

Your PPIP Report will be available in your secure CPSA Portal within the next few weeks. Keep an eye on your email for a notification of when it’s available.
