Telemedicine registration
Through electronic or digital communication, telemedicine enables physicians to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients at a distance.
A few examples of telemedicine include radiologists reviewing medical imaging from remote locations, or patient consultation using apps like Maple or over Skype.
An out-of-province physician who regularly practises telemedicine for Albertans must have a current independent practice permit with CPSA. This requirement is only waived if:
- The consultation is an emergency or
- The physician consults less than 6 times per year.
Eligibility criteria for out-of-province physicians
To be eligible to practice telemedicine for Albertans, you need to send us a Certificate of Professional Conduct from the licensing authority where you are currently practising medicine.
