About the standard
The Conflict of Interest standard was last updated in 2021. The proposed amendments strengthen expectations for recognizing, disclosing and appropriately managing real, potential and perceived conflicts of interest while reinforcing that patient interests must always come first.
What’s changed?
- Clarifies expectations for identifying, disclosing and documenting conflicts of interest.
- Strengthens restrictions on financial incentives, commissions and other inducements that could influence professional judgment.
- Clarifies expectations when referring patients to facilities or healthcare businesses in which a regulated member has a financial interest.
- Reinforces that patient interests must always take precedence over financial or business considerations.
