About the standard
The Charging for Uninsured Professional Services standard was last updated in 2014; however, an updated draft was shared for feedback during Consultation 31 (Oct. 7-Nov. 7, 2025).
This draft incorporates proposed amendments to strengthen expectations regarding discussions about fees, patient consent, documentation and transparency before providing uninsured professional services with the draft version shared during the previous consultation.
What’s changed?
- Proposes title change to “Charging Fees” to encompass all aspects of the standard.
- Strengthens expectations for discussing fees before services are provided in alignment with new legislation.
- Adds clarification regarding documentation requirements, including clear requirements for invoices.
- Additions to better support informed financial decision-making by patients.
