Dr. Omatseye Edema found guilty and sanctioned by CPSA Hearing Tribunal for unprofessional conduct

Edmonton, AB – Dr. Omatseye Edema, a family physician from Calgary, admitted to unprofessional conduct and was sanctioned by a CPSA Hearing Tribunal.

Dr. Edema was found guilty of failing to meet CPSA’s Patient Record Content, Prescribing Administration and Virtual Care standards of practice after issuing a prescription to a Florida-based patient in 2024, transmitting it to an online, British Columbia-based pharmacy, failing to confirm the prescription issued was being transmitted to a licensed pharmacy and failing to create a patient record to provide the clinical basis for his decision.

The Tribunal accepted Dr. Edema’s admission to the charges and a joint submission on sanction, ordering the following:

• Dr. Edema is to receive a written reprimand in the form of this hearing decision.
• At his own expense, Dr. Edema must successfully complete a record keeping course acceptable to the Complaints Director, within a 12-month period of the Tribunal’s written decision.
• At his own expense, Dr. Edema must successfully complete the PBI Risk Management Essential Extended Course, within six months of the Tribunals’ written decision, or another date acceptable to the Complaints Director.
