CPSA modernizes quarterly physician numbers with new digital format

Media Release, Registration | Posted July 7, 2026

Edmonton, AB – The College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) has modernized how we share our quarterly physician resource data by introducing new digital tables and charts.

CPSA provides publicly available physician resource numbers, categorized by register, specialty and practice location, on a quarterly basis. These digital tables provide static quarterly data as of the end of the identified quarter, along with quarterly comparisons up to the same period last year. Previously, CPSA presented all quarterly physician resource statistics through a paper-based PDF report. The new digital format allows CPSA to share our physician resource data with healthcare partners, government and Albertans in a more accessible, timely and streamlined way, enabling users to easily compare quarterly trends and track physician numbers across the province.

“CPSA continually looks for ways to innovate our processes and provide information to our partners and Albertans in more accessible formats,” says Sayra Khandekar, Assistant Registrar, Registration. “Modernizing how we share our quarterly physician resource data is another exciting advancement.”

Visit the new quarterly statistics page to access:

  • The number of fully-registered physicians on both the General and Provisional Registers, including a new breakdown of those with an Alberta address and those with an out-of-province address
  • The number of regulated members on other licensures, including physician assistants
  • The number of fully-registered physicians by specialty, AHS regional zones, practice locations in Alberta and place of graduation
  • A summary of CPSA’s Practice Readiness Assessments

    • This figure reflects an increase of 307 from the last quarter and an increase of 1,226 from the same period in 2025.
  • CPSA initiated 31 Practice Readiness Assessments and 44 assessments were completed (completed assessments may have been initiated in a prior quarter or year)
