Helping physicians stay on track with quality improvement

CPSA’s Physician Practice Improvement Program (PPIP) requires physicians to complete three quality improvement activities at least once over a five-year cycle: one focused on personal development, one practice-driven activity and one built around a CPSA standard of practice.

Physicians are asked to report their PPIP progress annually on their renewal information form (RIF). The Continuing Competence team uses your RIF data to create your annual, individualized PPIP Report, capturing how many PPIP activities you self-reported as having completed so far.

Distribution of your 2026 PPIP Report will begin shortly. You will receive an email from CPSA when your report is available in your secure CPSA Portal.

When does my five-year PPIP cycle end?

Your five-year PPIP cycle aligns with your continuing professional development (CPD) cycle through your national college. This means if your current CPD cycle ends in 2026, your cycle of three PPIP activities must be completed by Dec. 31, 2026.

Need support completing your PPIP activities?

To verify participation in PPIP, we conduct random audits throughout the year and ask physicians to share more information with us about their PPIP activities.

Based on our most recent audit data, the standard of practice (SoP) activity is an area where additional support and clarification may be helpful. The SoP activity requires the use of a CPSA standard of practice as a benchmark, to reflect on and assess adherence within your practice. To support this work, CPSA has two existing competence tools that meet the requirements of a SoP activity:

We also have a repository on our website with examples of all three PPIP activities (with action plans), submitted by your physician colleagues. Additionally, several of our healthcare partners have tools, programs and data available to help you meet PPIP requirements.

We appreciate your ongoing commitment to practice improvement and dedication to high-quality care for your patients. If you need support meeting PPIP requirements, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our PPIP team.
