Urgent or non-urgent, that is the question

An important update about notifications from your CPSA Portal

As the medical regulator in Alberta, CPSA regularly distributes important information, whether it’s a general update for the profession through The Messenger, or an important change via email. When we have information to share that is specific to a certain physician and may contain confidential information, we will often upload documents to your secure CPSA Portal.

When a document is uploaded to your Portal, an automated notification is triggered and sent to the email address on file. Over the years, we have heard feedback that these notifications were vague and stressful, which is why we’ve made some changes.

Urgent vs. non-urgent

As of April 29, 2026, there are two different versions of the automated notifications, based on the type of document uploaded to your Portal:

  • “You have a time-sensitive document from CPSA requiring your review”
    • This message means the document uploaded to your Portal requires your review and response within a specific timeframe (e.g., a prescribing concern, a complaint or initiation into a competence program). Please review these documents as soon as possible.
  • “You have a non-urgent document from CPSA”
    • This message means the document uploaded to your Portal is important for you to review, but is for your information only and no immediate action is required (e.g., a closure letter, receipt or your PPIP Annual Report).

We recognize that receiving a notification from the regulator may be stressful but hope that this change will provide a better understanding of what type of document you can expect when you log in to your Portal. Thank you to those who shared their feedback with us so we could understand your concerns and make this important improvement.
