Meet CPSA’s newest Councillors and learn more about their role as public members
About CPSA Council
CPSA is governed by a Council of elected regulated members and appointed public members. CPSA Council also includes non-voting members, such as the Deans from Alberta’s medical schools, plus medical student and resident representatives. Council plays a vital role in overseeing CPSA’s Strategic Plan and setting our overall direction and policies, to help CPSA fulfill our legislated mandate to protect patients and serve the public interest.

Want to hear more from Council’s public members? |
CPSA Council is fortunate to have a diverse composition of physician and public members, who bring their unique experiences and backgrounds to the Council table. While Council’s regulated members share their medical training and healthcare expertise, public members have the privilege of highlighting the patient perspective. At the same time, they bring expertise from diverse backgrounds in other sectors, such as healthcare leadership, education, business and governance. Both the regulated member and public member perspectives provide key insights as they work together towards the common goal of protecting patients in Alberta.
Members of the public interested in serving on councils like CPSA Council may learn more and apply through the Alberta government’s posting for public members on Health Professions College Councils.

Recent changes to CPSA Council
CPSA would like to thank public members Sam Shaw, Stacey Strilchuk and Dr. Tyler White, whose terms ended in June, for their immeasurable contributions to CPSA. We are thrilled that Patrick Etokudo has been re-appointed for an additional three-year term and will continue bringing his expertise to the Council table. We also look forward to welcoming new public members Garnet Clark, Rhonda Laboucan, Rob Merrifield and Pan Zhang to Council later this month!
