Statement: MCC QEII Exam Suspension

The Medical Council of Canada (MCC) announced on May 31, 2021 the suspension of the MCCQE Part II examination as a result of significant issues during the virtual examination process. MCC has apologized for the additional anxiety this has caused amidst the pandemic and confirmed a full refund for those registered for the current session, those who were transferred to the fall 2021 session and those who challenged the exam in the past weeks.

CPSA is evaluating the long-term implications on our registration requirements for those physicians who are completing their residency; until this decision is finalized by CPSA, physicians who have completed their residency can apply for independent practice without any restrictions on the provisional register. CPSA will keep residents up-to-date as more information becomes available from MCC on the future of the QE Part II exam.

CPSA would also like to acknowledge the challenges resident physicians who have recently participated in the exams have faced, and thank them for their resilience and commitment to their profession.
