How long does my physician keep my medical record?

Posted October 1, 2020

For an adult patient, your physician must retain a full copy of your records for 10 years following the last date you were seen.

For a minor patient, your physician must retain a full copy of your records for 10 years following the last date you were seen, or two years after the patient reaches or would have reached the age of eighteen (18), whichever is longer. For more information, see our Patient Record Retention standard of practice.
