Media Release | Posted January 16, 2025

Edmonton, AB – The College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) is proud to announce it has been awarded the 2024 David Swankin Continuing Competence Award from the International Society for the Advancement of Continuing Competence (ISACC), a non-profit organization that encourages and facilitates research to support advances in continuing competence programs.

This award recognizes CPSA’s research and implementation of physician competency-based programming, as well as the establishment of the Research & Evaluation Unit (REVU). REVU focuses on supporting physician competency through science-based research, aimed at strengthening programs and processes within the practise of medicine.

“On behalf of CPSA, I want to express how honoured we are to receive the David Swankin Continuing Competence Award from ISACC,” says Ed Jess, CPSA Chief Innovation Officer. “Innovation is one of CPSA’s key priorities, with a goal of enhancing physician competency and ultimately providing the highest quality of care to patients. Being recognized by ISACC for this work is truly significant.”

As the only medical regulator with a team devoted to regulatory research in Canada, CPSA’s REVU team strengthens physician competency and impacts medical regulation both across Canada and internationally.
