No medical professional should be required to make a referral against their conscience, ever! MAID has become a creeping culture of death across Canada and the reported numbers are exploding. MAID is contrary to a basic tenet of care "Do no harm". There numerous anecdotes but one will suffice. In August 2023 an otherwise healthy 46 year old female checked into Abbotsford BC Hospital psychiatric Unit looking for help because she was having suicidal thoughts. She was offered MAID within hours, checked out and is still alive. This initiative to change the conscience clause is evidence of a growing culture of death and should not be encouraged in Alberta.
