Approval for Complementary and Alternative Medicine

Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) refers to a group of diverse medical and healthcare systems, practices, and products not currently considered conventional medicine.

What is CAM?

While scientific evidence can exist in support of some CAM therapies, for most, there is not enough research to be certain about whether these therapies are safe or effective.

Examples include:

  • Bioelectromagnetic Applications
  • Diet/Nutrition/Lifestyle Changes
  • Mind/Body Control
  • Pharmacological and Biological Treatments
  • Structural and Energetic Therapies
  • Traditional and Ethnomedicine

To perform CAM, physicians need to apply to CPSA for approval. They must show that they have met appropriate training requirements, understand the CPSA standard of practice on CAM and are aware of safety risks involved.

CPSA approval does not mean we endorse the therapy or treatment. Rather, it means the physician with approval meets all the training conditions to perform the therapy.

Apply for CAM approval

We need you to tell us about your medical practice, the type of CAM you want to be approved for, how you will use this therapy and the type of education you have to support you performing this therapy safely.
