Outcomes from Consultation 017 and notice for Consultation 019

During their September 2020 meeting, CPSA Council approved the updated reporting standards. The standard of practice on Duty of Treating Physicians and Physicians Working in the Context of a Physician Health Program to Report a Physician to the College has been combined with our Duty to Report a Colleague standard.

Our standard on Reporting Self to the College has been updated and re-named to Duty to Report Self in order to keep the reporting standards together alphabetically. These updated standards, Duty to Report a Colleague and Duty to Report Self, will take effect Oct. 1, 2020. Learn more about the consultation outcomes.

Council also approved Consultation 019 to proceed, which will review our standards of practice on Closing or Relocating a Medical Practice, Job Action and Relocating a Medical Practice. Watch your inbox for the invitation to provide feedback.

Questions? Please email Chantelle Dick, CPSA Standards of Practice Coordinator.

Two-step verification is coming to the physician portal

In an effort to enhance security of the physician portal, CPSA will soon introduce a two-step verification system when logging in. In addition to providing your registration number and password, you’ll soon be required to answer a security question. The two-step verification is not yet live, but is expected to be rolled out in the coming weeks. Once two-step verification is activated, you will be asked to create three security questions upon your first log in to the portal from a list of pre-determined questions or by creating your own.

Take 15 minutes to share your thoughts on diversity in health care

Researchers from the University of Calgary are conducting a study on diversity, harassment and discrimination in health care.

You can help by taking a 15-minute survey, which will collect demographics and any details you’re comfortable sharing on your personal experiences in this area. Please know, your responses are completely anonymous. Results will only be viewed by the University of Calgary’s research team and collective data may be shared with interested stakeholders.

Learn more and begin the survey.

Need help with the diagnosis of a work-related injury? Expedited orthopedic surgeon consultations are only a referral away.

With a network of orthopedic surgeon partners, WCB-Alberta offers expedited consultation through our Diagnostic and Treatment Consultation (DTC) service.

What you can expect:

  1. An orthopedic surgeon will examine your patient and provide you with their findings, expert recommendations and/or respond to any questions on your referral. The surgeon does not take on a treating role; decisions regarding care for your patient remain under your direction.
  2. A consultation letter will be sent to you within two business days of the exam. You may request to be contacted to discuss findings.
  3. Your patient’s WCB claim owner can provide assistance in arranging the recommended treatment.

How to make a referral: Download the DTC referral form online today. If you have questions, call WCB’s Physician Help Line toll-free at 1-855-498-4919.

Updated PPE information from Alberta Health Services (AHS)

While AHS will continue ordering and securing PPE to ensure physicians and care teams have the supplies needed to support patients, they are moving to a cost-recovery model for community physicians working outside of AHS.

There are also specific guidelines and additional information available:

AHS is just one option for community physicians to order PPE. Community physicians can source from any supplier of their choice.
