CPSA is seeking physician focus group participants

The CPSA is developing its new communication strategy, which will shape how we interact with you. Initial research was conducted in January and a second validation phase in April will help to ensure we’re on the right track. Focus groups will be held in Calgary on Saturday, April 6 at 12 p.m. and in Edmonton on Monday, April 8 at 6 p.m.

Please register for a focus group session.

To align with language used by other programs across Canada, we’ve renamed PPAP to PRA-AB, or Practice Readiness Assessment.

PRA-AB is a registration assessment that ensures physician applicants who don’t meet the full requirements of the general register are ready for independent practice in Alberta.

2018 Complaints At-A-Glance
Find out how many complaints the profession received last year

Last year, 713 Alberta physicians received a complaint. Although this is only slightly higher (3.4%) than the previous year, work in professional conduct was busier than ever, with more time spent on resolution before and after investigation, more hearings and more files going to appeal. See more details in the full report or at-a-glance infographic.

Updated Standard of Practice: Safe Prescribing for Opioid Use Disorder

The new Safe Prescribing for Opioid Use Disorder standard of practice (formerly circulated as Opioid Agonist Treatment) was approved by Council for implementation effective April 1 and will be published then, along with an Advice to the Profession and Patient FAQs.

Your feedback is requested: new CMA Code of Ethics & Professionalism

We are seeking feedback until May 10 on the CMA’s new Code of Ethics & Professionalism to determine if the CPSA will adopt the new version of the Code (until further notice, the 2004 version remains in effect). Please send your feedback to consultation@cpsa.ab.ca.
