Council adopts official criminal record check policy to meet Bill 21 requirements

New CPSA registrants must supply a criminal record check or police certificate from every jurisdiction they have ever lived (90+ days) within 10 years of their application or dating back to their 18th birthday. More information.
 

You have until May 10 to comment on the new Code of Ethics

The Canadian Medical Association (CMA) approved their new Code of Ethics in late 2018. Before CPSA can adopt it, we need to know what you think!

Your feedback will help determine our recommendation to Council. Please review the CMA’s Code of Ethics and Professionalism and provide your feedback by May 10. Until Council makes a decision regarding the adoption of the new Code, the 2004 version remains in effect.

Bill 21 virtual town hall—cancelled: physicians to complete Bill 21 module instead

Bill 21 mandates the completion of a professional development module for all physicians. To be conscientious of physicians’ obligations and time, CPSA has cancelled the Bill 21 town hall on April 18. The module will be available in summer 2019 and will cover the same content. Until then, please contact Chantelle Dick, CPSA Standards of Practice Coordinator, with any questions related to the new standard of practice or advice documents.

Alcoholics Anonymous outreach event for healthcare professionals

Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.) is hosting an outreach event for professionals on Wednesday, June 19 at 12 p.m. at the Chateau Louis on Kingsway Avenue in the St. Michael Room. Attending this free luncheon event is a great first step to developing a relationship with A.A. and learning how you can help your patients recover from alcoholism. Changes announced for Insulin Pump Therapy Program

The Provincial Insulin Pump Therapy Program (IPTP) has been updated to make the program even more safe and patient-centered, with fewer restrictions to access based on previous blood sugar results.

STOP-Fracture program seeking input from primary care providers

The Strategies Targeting Osteoporosis to Prevent recurrent fractures (STOP-Fracture) program, a joint initiative between the Bone & Joint Health SCN and the Primary Health Care Integration Network, is looking for interested primary care providers and allied health professionals. If you deal with the prevention and management of osteoporosis in an older adult patient population, please attend their upcoming workshop on Monday, April 29.

Maternal Newborn Child & Youth SCN releases its Alberta Antenatal Pathway

The Alberta Antenatal Pathway is an online resource tool developed to support clinicians who provide antenatal care in Alberta. The pathway focuses on early identification and effective management of obstetrical risks that will support a healthy pregnancy and optimize mother and baby outcomes. The pathway also ensures appropriate care based on the patient’s unique risk factors and ensures care will be consistent regardless of where they reside in the province.

Serious Illness Conversation Guide (SICG) for physicians

The SICG is a structured way for physicians to facilitate conversations with patients and families in order to establish values, goals and wishes that can be translated into advance care plans and/or a Goals of Care Designation.
